5.0.2 appears to maintain the session connection for extended periods while on and idle, but battery life is too short when the iPad is kept 'awake' the whole time. I am unable to find a user setting permitting persistent session connection in sleep mode (I've always kept caffeine on). It is true that 5.0.2 does not disconnect immediately on sleep, but it appears to intentionally disconnect after the iPad has been in sleep mode for a relatively short time, about 5 minutes in my case, even sending a message to the Notification Center that the session was disconnected. I saw that one of the listed updates for 5.0.2 was a fix for the 'immediate disconnect on sleep issue' so gave it a spin. Reverted to the prior 4.x version and had no problems.
